Type of delivery point: Advocacy service

Aims: Complaints Procedure Advocacy (CPA) helps and supports people who are making a complaint about their local Social Services Department.

Each local authority Social Services Department has a complaints procedure which people can use. Social Services recognise that they cannot improve their services unless they listen to complaints and work to resolve them in a positive way. One of the ways they do this is by funding CPA to support people who are making a complaint. CPA works towards empowering the person who has complained by supporting them to speak up for themselves. CPA can provide support throughout the whole complaints process including, if necessary, going to the Local Government Ombudsman.
