Aims: The Contraception and Sexual Health (Family Planning) service is based at 14 different sites across the Trust holding weekly sessions at times to suit all, mornings, afternoons and evenings, Monday – Friday.
Six of the clinics are Young People’s Clinics for the age group 21 and under. They run a non-appointment drop in system and have an informal atmosphere.
The other clinics are for all age groups including young people, have self-referral appointment systems by telephone but every effort is made to see all emergencies.
The clinics offer contraceptive advice and free supplies including condoms, pregnancy testing and referral for termination. There is testing and treatment for women for sexually transmitted and other vaginal infections. The service is also a source of other sexual health advice and menopausal care.
Specialist clinics include a psychosexual counseling service and a referral service for GPs for intrauterine device problems and implant insertions and removals.
The clinics also provide specialist training for qualified doctors and nurses.
