Costs: Membership and taking out books is free, there is a charge for taking out music, computer games and films. If you are under 17 years of age there is a 50% reduction on the hire of CDs, reserving items and overdue charges.

Aims: All libraries provide a range of books from the latest bestsellers to classics, there are special sections for young people which have books for and about young people. Joining a library and taking books out is free, there is an online catalogue on the library website containing 2,000,000 titles from which books can be reserved. As well as books libraries also have DVDs and CDs - as with books if the one you want isn't in a library, you can reserve it from the catalogue. Free internet access is available in all libraries, the PCs also have packages such as MS Office and Photoshop which are also free to use. Please check for up-to-date information.
