Aims: The PCT plans, develops, buys and delivers your local health services - covering a population of over 186,000 in the Bath & North East Somerset area.

In developing and delivering services the PCT will promote and improve the health of local people by

working with local residents and local organisations to identify and tackle the causes of ill- health
developing and maintaining a good understanding of local health needs
targeting resources where needs are greatest and benefits can be maximised

The PCT will ensure the highest standard of care for patients by

supporting the integration of the provision and commissioning of care across traditional boundaries (primary, intermediate, secondary, tertiary and social care)
providing and commissioning services from secondary care that are clinically effective
providing specialist services within and beyond PCT boundaries e.g. learning difficulties
developing a professionally owned clinical governance process which monitors and evaluates standards of care
supporting people who may experience problems with services
