Type of organisation: Charity/Community
Aims: YWCA is the leading charity working with the most disadvantaged young women in England and Wales.
Young women face unique problems in today's society. They are largely unheard and lack influence. We want a future where they can overcome prejudice and take charge of their own lives.
We run services to support them and campaign with them to combat the discrimination they face.
Young women who attend our centres say how much they value YWCA because it's just for women. They like having time away from boys - it allows them to build their self-esteem and strong friendships. In an atmosphere where they know they wont be judged they can talk openly about the things that matter to them.
At Bristol we work with: young mums and pregnant young women, lesbian, bisexual and questioning young women, women from ethnic minorities, young women on a low income, young women in schools.
