About Us

Young mothers are stereotyped as poor, ignorant, dysfunctional, immoral and engaging in casual sex resulting in children they cannot care for adequately and do not care about in order to gain access to benefits and council housing. Teenage pregnancy is bound up in stereotypes of working class young women whose sexuality has historically concerned the ruling classes as having a dangerous potential for social and moral disorder Teenage pregnancy does not often result from ignorance or low expectations, it is rarely a catastrophe for young women. YMGT exists to dispel these myths by promoting that young parenthood can make sense, be valued and can even provide an impetus for teenage mothers and fathers to strive to provide a better life for their children.

The Young Mothers Group Trust Ltd – provide 19 units of supported accommodation for young mothers and mothers to be between the ages of 16-25. Although each mum is responsible for her own child, staff are on hand to offer support with sorting out benefits, finding out about local activities, further training, volunteering opportunities. YMGT Staff are highly trained and experienced in working with young parents enabling staff to facilitate the ‘Strengthening Families & Strengthening Communities’ parenting course; to deliver Life Wise Training Modules (certified by AQA) and provide basic awareness of sex and relationships to support young people make healthy sexual choices, by making it easier for them to access condoms when they need them, we are able to provide an onsite crèche for educational and personal development, assisted by external agencies and charities to provide specialist information and advice regarding stopping smoking, budgeting, keep fit, breastfeeding, further education, training, employability and lone parenting.
